Author. Influencer. Mother. Growing. Loving.
The oldest of four, Tyecia Lee spent 18 years of her life in the Foster Care System in Baltimore City. When Tyecia was 11 years old she packed all her belongings and moved out of her mother's house. She spent her 12th birthday at a group home in Montgomery County Maryland on Montgomery Avenue. Considered to be a runaway risk and troubled child she was introduced to drugs at the tender age of 12 years old. Becoming pregnant shortly after she made the tough decision to get an abortion because she knew that God had a better plan for her life. Tyecia was stabbed at the age of 13 protecting her foster mother, Joyce. That same night she had to have her spleen removed because the knife punctured it. Her adolescent years were spent in and out of trouble. She spent her senior year of high school incarcerated. Barely graduating on time but, by the grace of God; she did it. Tyecia successfully completed "New Pathways", an Independent Living Program in Baltimore at 21 years old. This program prepared foster children aging out of the system for indepence in the real world. In 2003 Tyecia moved to Tampa, Florida with Rev. Walter Paul Matthews Jr. where she was baptized by him at his church in Arcadia, Florida. She was recognized in the local newspaper for her academic excellence by maintaining a 4.0 GPA on the Dean's List. One word that describes Tyecia Lee, "resilient". She received a Bachelor's of Science in Human Services in 2007 then returned home to Baltimore to pursue a career in substance abuse counseling. Tyecia is actively involved with at risk youth in Baltimore City at Sisters Saving The City. This program provides opportunities for youth age 13-21 to learn employable professional skills; specifically by creating employment situations where they experience real world interactions. Tyecia has a great natural ability to work with children, specifically adolescents. She assisted in facilitating the creation of projects and activities which allowed the participants to use their imaginations to make various artistic creations. She was able to assist children with behavioral difficulties that extended outside of projects and guide them with a soft word and a gentle hand. She currently works with adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities at Jubilee Association of Maryland. Jubilee is located two houses away from the group home she spent her 12th birthday. Some may call it a coincidence but she calls it divine intervention; coming full circle 360 degrees. In October, 2018 Tyecia wrote four children's picture books, "More Bees With Honey", "Will You Love Me", "Teeny Weeny Itsy and Bitsy Go Fishing", and "Teeny Gets A Visit From The Tooth Fairy". That she self-published through her publishing company Picsar Publishing. Tyecia's mission and purpose in life is to use her story and experiences to motivate, uplift, and inspire.
